Goal 1: Preserve, protect, and enhance the scenic beauty
of Hope Valley and other places on the eastern slope of Alpine CountyObjective
1: Proactively preserve and protect the scenic beauty of Alpine County’s
eastern slope.
Task: Maintain the Scenic Highway status of Alpine County’s roads
by alerting officials when scenic views are degraded or obstructed.
Task: Work with and support the Alpine Watershed Group in its goal to
protect the quality of the waters and the health of the landscapes of
Alpine County . Task: Support and work for the Federal Wild and Scenic
River designation of the East Fork of the Carson River.
Task: Advocate for Nobel Canyon and Caples Creek wilderness additions
Task: Assist in preserving eastern Alpine County ranchlands, using conservation
easements if necessary.Objective 2: Enhance the scenic beauty Alpine
County’s eastern slope.
Task: Work with the National Forest Service to confine motorized vehicles
to designated trails to reduce the damage and disruption caused by off-road
vehicles, i.e., dirt bikes, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and snowmobiles.
Task: Lessen the impact of dispersed camping.
Task: Give input to the National Forest Service on its “route
designation” process and work with the agency on its road rehabilitation
projects.Objective 3: Monitor the impact of demographic and economic
land use and the management of federal lands on the scenic beauty of
Alpine County’s eastern slope.
Task: Monitor and evaluate proposed plans for development, including
plans to develop private land in-holdings.
Task: Be part of the decision making process of governmental agencies
that manage and maintain eastern Alpine County’s watersheds, forests,
wilderness areas, and infrastructure. Task: Discuss relevant issues
with candidates for elected positions, determine their stand on these
issues, and share them with our membership and friends.
Goal 2: Preserve, protect and promote natural resource
based recreational use of Hope Valley and other areas of the eastern
Alpine CountyObjective 1: Increase muscle powered recreational activities,
i.e., fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, general snow
play, hiking, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and cycling.
Task: With our partners, such as Snowlands, implement and assist in
the enforcement of the Alpine County Winter Recreation Plan by monitoring
legal and proper use of the habitat, began in the 2008-09 winter and
to continue for the next three winters.
Task: Create an eastern Alpine County summer recreation plan in conjunction
with stakeholders and agencies.
Task: Support the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce and its “Tour
of the California Alps” cycling event and other cycling events
in eastern Alpine County. Task: Describe & publicize local trails
in Alpine County in the “FOHV Newsletter” and FOHV Website.
Lead hikes and/or walking tours highlighting the beauty and historical
nature of Alpine county.Objective 2: Improve eastern Alpine County’s
waterways.
Task: Restore eroding stream banks.
Goal 3: Preserve and promote the historic values of
Hope Valley and other areas of the eastern Alpine CountyObjective 1:
Advocate for public access to public lands via historic trails.
Task: Reopen Pleasant Valley Trail to the public.Objective 2: Preserve
and replace Alpine County’s historical landmarks.
Task: Maintain and rebuild the fences of Hope Valley.
Task: Support the Alpine Historical Society.
Goal 4: The improvement of the Friends of Hope Valley’s
capacity to accomplish the goals discussed aboveObjective 1: Increase
the number of active participating members of the Friends of Hope Valley.
Task: Increase FOHV’s Board of Directors membership.
Task: Evaluate FOHV’s committee structure, as defined in its Bylaws,
and determine whether of not to seek members to serve on its committees.
Task: By April 2011 establish a FOHV Membership Day, when members can
help restore habitats, hike together, and learn and discuss their organization’s
issues.
Objective 2: Improve communications between FOHV’s
BOD and its membership.
Task: By August 2009 review the BOD’s means of communication with
FOHV’s membership; consider content, dates of publications, and
use of newsletters and flyers.
Task: Increase the effectiveness of FOHV’s use of email and its
website.Objective 3: Maintain FOHV’s strong financial condition.
Task: Increase the number of dues paying FOHV members.Objective 4: Collaborate
with other like-minded organizations to achieve our goals.
Task: Improve FOHV’s relationship with Lake Tahoe Sierra Club.
